Oh Boy…Posted by David Gray in Sketchbook, Uncategorized, tags: caricature, quantum leap, sam beckett, scott bakula, sketch, telly
A couple of ‘blind’ drawings, done without looking at the paper. Always good to shake things up a bit.
I looked a little bit.

“I don’t want to be here anymore.”Posted by David Gray in inspiration, tags: comedy, inspiration, limmy, sketch show, videoI think we all feel like this sometimes.
Columbo has just no more things. A rough sketch I did earlier in the year and therefore not opportunistic.
More Columbo related tomfoolery to come in the not-too-distant future.

Poppy, Peppa And ParaphernaliaPosted by David Gray in faces, poppy cat, sketch, SketchbookSo, an update I guess. ![]() Poppy Cat's eclectic colour palette is currently bemusing children on Nick Jr at 9.30am everyday, apparently.
Having rounded off work on Poppy Cat early March, I fled North East to That London to help finish work on Series 4 of Peppa Pig. It was a refreshing change of pace and a terrifically enjoyable, if tiring, three months. My thanks to all at The Elf Factory for putting up with my awkward silences. I’m currently on hiatus having a little existential crisis, so what better time to start rummaging through my sketchbooks and piles of paper and posting some edited highlights on the blog. It’s about time, quite frankly.
I’m aiming to post at least one thing a week until Christmas, be it sketchbook work, personal projects or something inspirational. If I fall behind you have my express permission to come around and break my thumbs.
Louis and Fluff got some life drawing sessions up and running recently and we’ve been having lots of fun drawing eachother. We had even more fun kitting Louis out in a Father Christmas costume for our seasonal session: We plan on dressing him up more often.

They’re meant to stick to the wall…Posted by David Gray in caricature, Post-It Notes, sketch…but they never do. Maybe I’m buying the cheap ones. One of my favourite blogs is Sexy People. It’s a wonderful repository for daft, odd and sometimes downright disturbing portrait photographs. It’s an absolute goldmine for character design and caricature references and, as such, I often go through it making quick sketches on Post-It Notes. Some are a bit crude and faded. I’ve also snuck in some quick sketches of Anne Widdicombe and Ron Perlman for some reason. It’d be nice to go through these at some point and refine them, maybe even put them through Illustrator and colour them up. Hello again, by the way.

Merry ChristmasPosted by David Gray in Cartoon, Christmas, tags: Cartoon, Christmas, me
Hello. Welcome to my shiny new blog. Please wipe your feet before you come in. Some sketches from a cafe Exeter, the quiz night in Canvey Island and a drawing for my mum’s birthday card, depicting me desperately trying to keep the house tidy for when she gets home from work.
